About the Role

Position Summary:


The Farmers Alliance is seeking a motivated Outreach Coordinator to  build relationships with farmers, share information about organic  transition resources, and recruit producers to participate in TFA’s  farmers markets and wholesale opportunities. This position is ideal for  someone who enjoys connecting with people, has an interest in  agriculture, and is comfortable conducting proactive outreach.

The  role includes contacting farmers by phone, email, and in person;  attending farmer-focused events; visiting farms; and representing TFA  within the regional agricultural community. Reliable transportation is  required, and mileage is reimbursable.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Comfort with cold calling, phone outreach, and direct engagement with farmers.

  • Interest in agriculture, organic farming, and local food systems.

  • Ability to travel regularly to farms and regional events (personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursable).

  • Organized and able to manage outreach pipelines, call lists, and follow-up schedules.

  • Experience in outreach, sales, community engagement, or agriculture preferred.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to conventional farmers to share information about  organic farming, organic transition, and available technical and  financial resources.

  • Recruit organic and transitioning farmers to participate in TFA-operated farmers markets in Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

  • Inform producers about wholesale, distribution, and institutional market opportunities available through TFA.

  • Make outreach calls, send emails, and conduct follow-ups to engage prospective farmers.

  • Attend agricultural events, conferences, workshops, and farmers markets to represent TFA and meet producers.

  • Visit farms across the DMV region to build relationships, assess needs, and provide information.

  • Maintain accurate records of outreach efforts, contacts, and recruitment progress.

  • Collaborate with TFA’s Sales & Distribution Team to integrate new producers into existing programs.
